Abstract

Studies on the comparative performance of ten strawberry cultivars such as, Tioga, Torrey, Blakemore, Howard 17, Florida 90, Catskill, Shasta, Robinson. Fairfax and Elista conducted for 2 years revealed highest yield in Tioga (19.30 q/ha) which was 2 to 4 times higher than the other cultivars, however, the quality of berry was better in Torrey followed by Tioga. Of the five planting densities studied viz. 30x15, 30x22.5, 30x30, 30x45 and 30x60 cm, it was found that closer spacings upto 30x15 cm produced higher yield of lower quality berries whereas wider spacings upto 30 × 60 cm produced lower yields of higher quality berries during the first year. However, the differences in the yield during the second year were not significant. Nevertheless, the quality was better at wider than the closer spacings.
