Abstract

Nineteen varieties of tomatoes were studied for the fruit quality. Based on quality components viz. TSS/acid ratio, TSS, lycopene, and size of the fruits of the varieties, Roma and 2466–27 were found to be have good quality. Association between pairs of characters indicated significant co-relation between shape and reducing sugars, size and lycopene, reducing sugar and lycopene and acidity and TSS/acid ratio. Prediction equations were fitted for these characters. Multiple regression analysis indicate that all the characters cumulatively contribute 73 per cent to lycopene, while all the characters (except lycopene) contribute 81 per cent to TSS/acid ratio.
