Abstract

Gamma rays (Co60) at 3 KR level proved very favourable for production of more shoots per plant in JW, SS, Hb, RB, Sv and Ml. No stimulated shooting in any of the chemical mutagens was noticed. Generally 4 and 5 KR presented crooks in plant growth. Height of the plants was accelerated under 3 KR in Pc, Sv and Hb whereas spike length only in Pc. Leaf number was found increased in RB (3 to 5 KR) and Hb (0.05 per cent MNH). Mostly the results were deleterious in other varieties and treatments. Heading was stimulated by a few days under 3 KR gamma rays and 0.05 per cent MNH in all the varieties.
