Growth, maturity period and physico-chemical evaluation of the fruits of four cultivars of Chinese gooseberry, viz., Abbott, Allison, Bruno and Hayward were investigated under Simla conditions during 1978. Fruit growth curve was found to be unique. On the basis of days required from anthesis to fruit harvest, Allison was found to be an early cultivar, Hayward the late and Abbott and Bruno mid season ones. Hayward fruits were of the biggest size. Highest amount of ascorbic acid and titratable acidity were recorded in Bruno fruits and least in Allison. Because of earliness and high sugar content, the Allison is recommended as a most suitable cultivar for commercial cultivation.
