Abstract

Extensive hybridization work carried out for two years employing commercial grape cultivars showed maximum percent seed-set on pollinating Bangalore Blue with Black Champa. On the basis of seed germination, Cheeema Sahebi, Anab-e-Shahi and Bangalore Blue were found to be good female parents. Maximum seed germination was obtained in the cross between Cheema Sahebi and Anab-e-Shahi. Seed germination in Black Champa was very poor. Hybrid evaluation for berry and bunch shape and appearance indicated that the cross combinations—Black Champa×Anab-e-Shahi, Black Champa × Thompson Seedless, Anab-e-Shahi × Black Champa, Anab-e-Shahi × Queen of the Vineyards and Angur Knlan, × Convent Large Black were very prospective.
