Evaluation of rootstocks was carried out during 1975 and 1976 for Jaffa sweet orange budded on eight rootstocks. Observations on tree growth, yield, fruit quality, nutrient status of leaves as well as sugars, alcohol insoluble carbohydrates and phenolics in the bark and incidence of greening were recorded. In respect of tree volume, Jatti Khatti excelled all other rootstocks, whereas trees on Rangpur lime and Kharna Khatta made poor growth. Bark cracking and scaling on the stock portion indicative of exocortis trouble was found in their case. Maximum fruit yield was obtained on Jatti Khatti during 1975, but during 1976 it was next to Cittumelo. Leaf N was found in the low range. Leaf P was in low to optimum range while K was in high range. Zn was found deficient in all the combinations, Fe in optimum range, while B varied from high to excess level. Presence of greening virus was found in all the combinations.
