Studies were carried out at S. V. Agricultural College Orchard, Tirupati (A. P.) on the volume of flowering, sex ratio and self-compatibility of 16 cultivars of mango both under table and juicy types and five hybrids released from Andhra Pradesh. The studies revealed that the volume of flowering was greater and the sex ratio narrower, in juicy compared to the table varieties and among the table varieties, volume of flowering and self-compatibility was far low and the sex ratio wider in choice varieties that are shy bearers. Among the hybrid progenies, involving heavy and shy bearing parents, the intensity of flowering, proportion of perfect flowers and fruitset were greater in majority of the cases, even exceeding the better parent. Increased yields obtained in the hybrids, is possibly due to the above situation. There were indications of self-incompatibility in choice varieties of Himayuddin, Jahangir and Alphanso.
