An experiment was undertaken to study the effect of defoliation of Totapuri scion and age of rootstock on the stone or epicotyl grafting of mango. The seedlings of 2, 4 and 6 days old were used as rootstock and defoliation of scion for 3, 5 and 7 days prior to the grafting was done. Six days old rootstock and five days defoliation before grafting operation was optimum for quick sprouting and greater success. The number of leaves and height were greater with four days old stock and 7 days defoliation. However the stock and scion girth was bigger with four days old rootstock plus five days defoliation. From the point of greater success and good growth the treatment combination of four days old rootstock and five to seven days defoliation was the best of all.
