Abstract

Softwood cuttings of the Chinese gooseberry cv. Allison were treated with 0, 25,00, 5000 and 7500 ppm IBA and planted in river bed sand under mist on 28tb June, 1982. Ninety per cent rooting was obtained under 5000 ppm IBA application followed by 86, 70 and 40 per cent rooting in 7500 ppm, 2500 ppm and the control, respectively. Thus, 5000 ppm IBA treatment proved to be optimum for rooting of Chinese gooseberry softwood cuttings. The rooted cuttings were found suitable for orchard planting within a period of five months. This technique, therefore, can be utilized for the commercial propagation of Chinese gooseberry plants. The rooting of hardwood and semihardwood cuttings was however, poorer than softwood cuttings under the same treament.
