Abstract

Parental, F1, F2, B1 and B3 generations of ten crosses were used for estimation of gene effects for two important characters namely number of fruits/plant and weight of fruit. Most of the interacting crosses revealed duplicate epistasis. In majority of the crosses there was d, i and j gene effect for the character number of fruits, and improvement through recurrent selection is suggested. There was pre-dominance of dominance × dominance (1) gene effect for weight of fruit. Improvement in weight through heterosis breeding has been suggested.
