In difficult to-root litchi stem cutting, significant promotion in rooting was recorded by ringing the shoots fifteen days prior to taking the cuttings and treating them at the time of planting with IBA at 10,000 ppm singly and in combination with any one among p-hydroxybenzoic acid, ferulic acid and p-ccumaric acid at 2000 ppm. The percentage of rooting (90 per cent) and root number (16.21) per cutting were highest by treatment with IBA and ferulic acid. Root length increased when p-hydroxybenzoic acid was used in combination with IBA. None of the treatments, however, proved effective in case of non-ringed cuttings.
