Comparision was made between the trees with normal yield pattern and the trees with a different but more desirable yield pattern with regard to the month-wise nutrient status in guava cv. Allahabad Safeda. The normal yield pattern was the one in which the ratio of rainy season fruit yield to winter yield was more than 3.0, while in the different pattern, this ratio was less than 2.0. It was observed that, the trees with the different yield pattern were of less nitrogen and potassium status in July and of less potassium status alone in August. They were of more nitrogen status in November and of more phosphorus status in October and November. The role of current metabolites in the fruit yield and the possibility of converting the normal yield pattern into a more desirable pattern is discussed.
