Abstract

A systematic fan design spacing trial was laid out with Coorg Honey Dew papaya to find out optimum plant density (spacing) for maximum crop production because plant density and distribution are important factors in crop production. It was observed that spacing L2 (1.20 in × 1.20 m) resulted in taller plant of 231.0 cm height. Other parameters like girth of stem, number of leaves and flowering height did not show any significant difference under different spacings, except the number of leaves after 18 months of plant growth. At 18 months maximum number of leaves (13.71) were found under spacing L2 (1.20 m × 1.20 m). Maximum fruit yield/plant was obtained under spacing 1.33 metres whereas there was further decrease in spacing to obtain increased yield/ha spacing of 1.33 metres was the second best when yield/ha was considered.
