Abstract

The seed weight and seed yield of onion were significantly increased at earlier (15th Sept. and 15th Ojt.) planting bulbs and beyond this date the value of above characters decreased. The bigger (3.5—4.5 cm and 2.5–3.5 cm diameter) size mother bulbs significantly yielded higher seed as compared to smaller size. The 100 seed weight and seed germination were also higher at bigger size. When the smaller size of mother bulbs was planted, the yield and yield parameters decreased. The interaction of D × S significantly influenced the yield in first year, weight of 100 seed was influenced ir, both years, however, the seed germination was affected only in last year of experimentation. The maximum seed yield, seed weight and germination were recorded when bigger size of bulbs were planted on 15th September and minimum were observed on smaller size of bulbs planted on 15th November.
