Abstract

Studies on the anatomical features and the effect of IBA and NAA on callusing, rooting and sprouting behaviour of stem cuttings of sweet Jime were carried out. Anatomical studies revealed that the schlerenchymatous tissues were arranged in patches and most of vascular rays open into cortex freely without any hinderance in rooting of this species. The percentage of call used cutting was highest in IBA 200 ppm and the amount of callus per cutting was maximum in NAA 100 ppm treatment. The proportion of rooted cuttings was higher with IBA 100 ppm. However, number of roots per cutting and root length was more with 200 ppm NAA. The combination of these auxins did not prove better than when applied singly. No correlation between callusing and rooting was found.
