Abstract

In vitro proliferated shoots originated from shoot tips of potato (Solarium tuberosum Linn) cv. ‘Cardinal’ were rooted readily in a non-sterile medium composed of sand and dried leaves mixed in equal proportion by volume. Apparently rooting was more efficient in January and February when the maximum and minimum temperatures were 18°C, 21°C and 4°C, 6°C respectively. Rooted plants were successfully established in the field and grown to maturity with an average yield of 230 g and 18 tubers per plant.
