Abstract

Thirty diverse genotypes of onion were sown in a randomized block deisgn with three replications with the objective to study genetic variability and character associations of yield and its components, at Vegetable Research Farm, Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana. A wide range was observed for most of the characters. Total yield of bulbs and bolting percentage were found to have comparatively high phenotypic and genotypic coefficient of variation than other characters. High heritability estimates were found for bolting percentage, yield and diameter of bulb. Selection of these characters based on the phenotypic performance will be effective for onion improvement. The bulb yield was associated positively with diameter of bulb and 10-bulb weight.
