Leaf nutrient status of healthy and unhealthy trees in 47 guava orchards in the Punjab State was studied by analysing the composite leaf samples collected from the mid-shoot of the non-fruiting twigs during September, 1983. The study revealed that the leaves from the unhealthy trees had significantly lower concentration of N, P and K compared to those in the leaves of the healthy trees. Since a poor supply of these nutrients seems to be the major cause of the unhealthy look as well as poor quality and yield of the fruit, it can be suggested that the first step towards the rejuvenation of declining guava orchards should be to supply adequate amounts of N, P and K.
