Abstract

Early Round and Alucha Black were found self-compatible. Eleven types including the commercially important cultivars Titron and Howe showed pseudocom-patibility behaviour; and the selfed fruit sets in these cultivars are assumed to be because of repeated pollinations under natural conditions. Effective pollinizers were Alucha Black and Alpha for Titron; Alpha for Late Yellow; and P^ for Howe. The pollen-pistil recognition and ovule viability were found to be maximum just before anthesis.
