Improvement of Citrus Rootstocks By Breeding—Evaluation of Eleven Rootstock Hybrids

Eleven citrus rootstock hybrids were evaluated for various vigour parameters. Hybrid Swingle citrumelo(C.paradisi "Duncan grapefruit" × P. trifoliata) was observed to be most vigorous at par with control i.e. rough lemon and Rangpur lime. The results have indicated the usefulness of pummelo (C. grandis) and grape fruit (C par-adisi) blood in breeding for highly vigorous rootstocks. Extensive use of Swingle citrumelo rootstock in various trials in different agroclimatic conditions has been suggested.
