Studies were carried out on heritability, genetic advance, correlation coefficients and path coefficients analysis in relation to growth behaviour and fruit characters with yield components under a widely divergent collection of 40 varieties of mango (Mangifera indica L). high genotypic coefficient of variation was found for fruit weight, fruit volume, reducing sugar and ascorbic acid which revealed a least influence of environment and suggested a great scope for improvement. The highest heritability was found for ascorbic acid, reducing sugar, total soluble solids content, number of fruits, value of heritability alongwith high genetic advance was found to be the most effective contribution for making selection of varieties.
The positive and significant correlations in number of fruits, their size with total soluble; solids, ascorbic acid, pH value, fruit weight, fruit volume, were found during both the years of these investigations. Plant spread in North × South, and East × West had positive indirect effect through different aspects of growth behaviours of the plants. Direct and indirect positive effects of plant characters with number of fruits, their different aspects and yield were also found in the relationship observations.
