Edible fruits of sixteen long type Brinjal cultivars were analysed for biochemical parameters. Among the cultivars the variations for the dry matter, crude protein, total reducing, non-reducing sugars, ash, phosphorus, total sulphur and total phenolic constituents were found from 6.46–9.39 per cent, 0.89–1.17 per cent, 3.18–3.55 percent, 1.78–1.97 per cent, 1.27–1.50 per cent, 0.48−0.75 per cent, 95.0–204.4 mg/100 g, 27.7–143.5 mg/100 g, 58.3–175.0 mg/100 g, respectively on fresh weight basis. Anthocyanin and chlorophyll content in the peel of fresh fruit ranged from 0.0−0.34 O. D. and 0.15–2.10 mg/g tissue. Cultivars NDB-2, PBr-129-5, NDB-25, ARU-2C, Pusa Kranti and K-34745 were promising in yield performance.
