Investigation was carried out at three apple orchard belts viz. Kumarsain, Sarahan and Chopal of Shimla district in Himachal Pradesh, in order to find out the effect of phosphorus application on growth, yield, quality of fruit and P content in plants. There were two sources of P i. e. Single Superphosphate and Mussorie phosphate each applied @ 175 g and 350 g P2O5 per tree. Effect of P application varied not only from location to location but also from year to year, based on the P status of the soil. It is, therefore, inferred that the present recommendation of 350 g P2O5 per plant does not hold good for the entire state. Single Superphosphate was found to be superior to Mussorie phosphate as a source of P application.
