Studies on the germination of seeds extracted from immature berries of mid-season grape cv. Black Muscat and early cv, Julski Muscat of Vitis vinifera L. conducted during 1979–81 revealed that seeds were capable of germination five weeks after anthesis in the former and six weeks after anthesis in the latter cultivar with 1500 ppm GA3 plus 2000 ppm Kinetin and 2500 ppm GA3 plus 1500 ppm Kinetin treatments respectively. In Black Muscat, 50 per cent germination was obtained nine weeks after anthesis with 1500 ppm GA3 plus 2000 ppm and 2500 ppm Kinetin. Black Muscat showed higher germination than Julski Muscat. This would enable breeder in advancing the assessment of grape hybrids by one year, especially in North India.
