Investigations carried out at the Indian Institute of Horticultural Research, Bangalore from 1982–83 to 1984–85 indicated that irrigating sweet pepper when soil matric potential reached —65 kPa at 15 cm depth resulted in maximum growth, yield and WUE as compared to irrigations at —25, —45 and —85 kPa although the differences among —25, —45 and —65 kPa were not significant. Imposing stress of —85 kPa either upto first picking or thereafter significantly reduced growth, yield and WUE of sweet pepper as compared to maintenance of uniform soil matric potential of —45 to —65 kPa.
