Abstract

Studies were carried out over three years with a view to determine the nutrient element status of vine associated with optimal yield of acceptable quality and the fertilizer doses required to obtain such nutrient element concentration in the petioles of grapevine at bloom time. Application of NPK fertilizers at 583, 458 and 458kg respectively per hectare was adequate to maintain the concentration of these elements within the recommended, sufficiency range. The petiole-N and yield relationship shows that lower values of nitrogen are associated with higher levels of productivity. The nutrient element concentration of petiole associated with maximul yield are: Petiole-N 1–44, -P 0.513, —K 1.394, —Ca 2.39, —Mg 0.45 (per cent dry weight)
