Response of five gladious cultivars viz. Snow-Princess, Melody, Suchitra, Mayur and Green Meadow, under four levels of nitrogen viz. 0, 20,40 and 60 g/m3 was studied during 1987–88. Spike length and number of florets/spike in the cultivar Suchitra only were significantly increased by the application of 20 g N/m2. However, higher levels of N did not produce significant differences other cultivars failed to exhibit such effect. For nitrogen content in leaves, the cultivar Green Meadow, Mayur and Melody were found responsive to N application and showed increasing trend with the increase in nitrogen dose but cultivars Snow Princes and Suchitra did not record such response to N application above 20 g N/m2.
