Abstract

An experiment was conducted on ‘Robusta’ banana to find out suitable and economic soil cover for profitable production. Cost of cultivation per ha varied from Rs. 22,916. <1 in sugarcane trash at 60 per cent ASM depletion to Rs. 37,395.75 in black polyethylene at 20 per cent ASM depletion. Net profit under sugarcane trash was the highest (Rs. 38,222.57/ha) due to low cost of cultivation and good income. The highest cost-benefit ratio of 1: 3.65 was obtained under sugarcane trash at 20 per cent ASM depletion. Relative efficiency of the different soil covering materials was discussed.
