A 7 X 7 diallel set of crosses was involved to know the extent of heterosis in brinjal for maturity, yield and its component characters. The best parents identified through gca analysis were P-8 and PPL for most of the characters. However, to enhance the yield potential through average fruit weight and fruit number are positively associated with the yield, yet they can not be improved simultaneously. The best crosses identified through specific combining ability analysis, PTR X PPL, PTR X PPC and BR-11 X SM 17-4 for yield. The crosses 7–3 X PPL and 7–3 X PPC can be emlved for component breeding.
