Genetic variability, heritability and expected genetic adwnce were studied for ten characters in brinjal. Genotypic coefficient of variability ranged from 4.11 (duration) to 43.21 (fruit length) per cent. Almost all the characters showed heritability estimate more than 85 per cent of which the highest was recorded by single fruit weight (99.9 per cent). The genetic adwoce ranged from 8.45 to 88.88 (fruit length). The characters fruit length, fruit volume, single fruit weight and fruit yield per plant showed high heritability alongwith high genetic gain which indicated that there were more number of additive fuctors and further improvement in the yield could be brought about by selection based on phenotypic obsermtion of these characters.
