Abstract

Efficacy of GA, ethephon, succinic acid, urea and tree spray oil on bloom delay, fruit set, fruit retention and green almond yield was evaluated. The experiment was conducted during 1987–88 on 7-year old Nonpareil and Drake cultivars on bitter almond rootstock. All the chemicals delayed the bloom significantly but succinic acid (600 ppm) and ethephon (300 ppm) were more effective. GA, succinic acid and urea improved the fruit set and maximum retention was observed in 200 ppm GA. Ethephon reduced the fruit retention markedly. Green almond yield was increased with succinic acid, urea and tree spray oil but decreased appreciably with GA and ethephon. The maximum yield was recorded with 800 ppm succinic acid spray.
