Abstract

Two exotic varieties of cabbage namely E.C. 24855 and E.C. 10109 were crossed to develop a commercial variety resistant to black rot disease. High resistance was combined to commercial traits in Sel. 8, which was tested finally at 13 different locations in 6 agro-c1imatic regions of the country. Sel. 8 was highest yielder at Hissar, Nilgiris and Delhi. Higher percentage of increase over the check in yield was noted in Nilgiris (75.7%), Ranchi (39.4%), Rahuri (28.8%) and Sabour (24.8%). The incidence of disease in Sel. 8 was very low at Delhi, Durgapura and Katrain when compared to the susceptible check. Sel. 8 has been released under the name of 'Pusa Mukta' for commercial cultivation.
