Nitrate—N at bud differentiation stage at which the potential yield is detrimental was found to be 1.7 mg/g dw for 31.34 t/ha yield on application of 800 kg N/ha in 2 splits, rather than 1.3 mg/g dω at bloom stage where yield has already been expressed in the form of number and size of inflorescence. Petiole gave better relationship than leaf lamina.
