Abstract

The studies were carried out during 1989 and 1990 to find out the method of eliminating rainy season crop and to encourage a good winter crop in guava cv. Allahabad Safeda. For this purpose, the sprays of urea (10, 15 and 20 per cent), NAA (400, 600, 800 and 1000 ppm), sevin (0.5, 1.0 and 2.0 per cent) and hand-deblossoming were done at pre-bloom and full-bloom stages. The spray applications of urea and NAA completely deblossomed the rainy season bloom whereas a partial deblossoming was done with sevin. The highest yield of winter crop was obtained with the full-bloom application of NAA (800 ppm). It was at par and closely followed by urea (10 per cent) treatment. The latter, however, produced better quality of fruits. The overall appraisal of the findings of this study suggest that urea (10 per cent) at full-bloom can be used for winter cropping in guava.
