Abstract

Desuckering is an important cultural operation in banana cultivation. This is conventionally done by pruning of suckers or auguring them at regular intervals. This method requires repeated pruning as terminal bud being deep set is not destroyed. Application of 2,4–0 (1: 16 and 1: 32) in the axil of central leaf or in the central space of cut surface of sucker was found to be very effective for desuckering with additional yield without any adverse effect on plant and fruits. This treatment also provides economic benefit through higher production.
