Abstract

Shoot tip explants derived from 15-day old aseptically grown seedlings of the hybrid squash were induced to produce multiple shoots on Murashige and Skoog's medium. Higher number of shoots per explant was achieved when MS medium was supplemented with BAP in combination with NAA. Further increase in shoot number was obtained when casein hydrolysate (CH) was added. In respect of medium quality rating, 1 mgl−1 BAP + 0.1 mgl−1 NAA gave a good shoot growth with higher frequency of shooting and greater number of shoots per explant. Regenerated shoots were rooted well in half strength MS medium with IBA and NAA (0.1 mgl−1 each).
