Abstract

Seven varieties of potato planted during kharif, autumn and rabi season of 1987–88 and 1988–89 (making six environments) were evaluated for stability parameters with respect to tuber yield (q/ha). A significant genotype-environment interaction for tuber yield was observed. Both linear as well as non-linear components accounted for the interaction present. However, the former contributed to a greater part. Among the materials evaluated, Kufri Jyoti was found to be an ideal genotype which is average stable and desirable for tuber yield under varied environmental conditions. Early maturing varieties Kufri Chandramukhi and Kufri Lauvkar were above average stable and responsive to poor environment, while Kufri Bahar was below average stable and performed well only in favourable environments. These genotypes could serve as useful parents in breeding programme.
