Abstract

A study was made on water melon. cv. Arka Manik to eleven dates of sowing in protected nursery and four ages of transplant. Sowing of watermelon between the last week of December and first week of January was found superior without having any adverse effect on fruit quality and earliness. Early sowings recorded poor establishment of crop as the transplanting coincided withthe peak winter. Early sowings took significantly longer time for flowering and first harvesting compared to the late sowings. Six weeks old transplants were found to be the best for transplanting watermelon which produced the highest number of fruit/plot. The duration of crop also significanltly reduced in the case of six weeks old transplants.
