Abstract

The crop factor varied from 0.95 to 1.0 with 100 per cent evaporation replenishment. It was 0.82, 0.83, 0.61 upto April, August and December with 80 per cent replenishment. Evaporation replenishment with 60 per cent recorded crop factors of 0.78, 0.70 and 0.53 for periods upto May, August and December. When the evaporation replenishment rates were 40 per cent, the crop factors decreased from 0.76 (upto April), 0.67 (upto August) and 0.46 (upto December). The crop factors for the corresponding periods with 20 per cent evaporation replenishment rates were 0.56, 0.48 and 0.44, respectively. Therefore, irrigations should be scheduled to wet the soil to a depth of 450 mm. Excess irrigations to wet deeper layer may result in wastage of water and leaching of nutrients beyond the. effective root zone.
