Abstract

An experiment was conducted with different size of suckers, slips and crowns to find out the best type and size of planting material of pineapple to get maximum yield and good quality fruits. Plant height was not significantly influence by type and size of planting material. However, maximum height of plant was recorded with 65-70 cm suckers. A significant increase in weight of fruits and crown was observed by 45-50 cm slips followed by 55-60 cm suckers. The fruit quality in respect of TSS, sugar and TSS/acid ratio was found to be significantly improved by the planting of 5-10 cm crown size but at par with slips and suckers of 45-50 cm and 55-60 cm respectively which gave maximum yield. Considering the yield and fruit quality, slips of 45-50 cm size were found to be the best planting material to get maximum yield of good quality followed by suckers of 55-60 cm size.
