Abstract

Inheritance of downy mildew resistance in muskmelon was studied in three crosses, namely, Phoot (R) × Pusa Madhuras (S), Phoot (R)× Monoecious-3 (S) and Phoot (R) × Lucknow Safeda (S). Six generations viz; P1, P2, F1, F2, BC1 and BC2 in each cross were subjected to the study of inheritance of downy mildew resistance under artificial inoculation conditions. All the three crosses showed duplicate type of gene action for downy mildew resistance. Two dominant genes were involved for resistance in Phoot × Monoecious-3 and Phoot × Pusa Madhuras crosses, whereas two recessive genes governed the downy mildew resistance in Phoot × Lucknow Safeda.
