Abstract

Twenty five healthy and high yielding Starking Delicious apple trees were selected from each of five well managed orchards and soil nutrient status was determined which was found to be in the high range. Correlations were computed between soil nutrient status and fruit yield. Multiple regression equations were also worked out considering fruit yield as a dependent variable on soil nutrient status. Significant positive correlations between soil nutrients and fruit yield were exhibited by N, P, Ca, Mg and Fe during both the years. The soil K showed significant positive correlation during 1989 only whereas soil Zn exhibited significant positive correlation during 1990. The regression analysis showed that the variability in yield due to the soil nutrient status was 31.4 and 34.6 per cent during 1989 and 1990, respectively.
