Abstract

The influence of plant population and nitrogen application on the physiological parameters such as LAI, LAD, LAR, SLA and SLW of Kew pineapple was studied. LAI values were maximum at the closest spacing. LAD, LAR and SLA registered superior values at the medium planting density (53,333 plants+ha) indicating the undesirability of adopting still closer planting for this crop. The results have also indicated that application of higher doses of nitrogen (16 g+ plant) during the pre-flowering period will help to bring about favourable trends in growth parameters computed based on leaf area and dry matter accumulation.
