Abstract

Thirty three genotypes of french bean were grown in three environments i.e. rabi 1992, summer 1993 and nineteen of them in summer 1994 to study the reaction of the genotypes to the changing environments. The degree of interse variability among the genotypes in three environments had similar trend as indicated by the coefficient of variation for all the characters except green pod yield. The analysis of variance for all the characters indicated high significant difference between the genotypes in all the three environments.

Stability analysis revealed that two genotypes, CH-348 and CH-815, were found to be the best suitable in less favourable conditions, whereas, CH-909, CH-1113 and CH-1163 are less stable in yield and are suitable for favourable environments. Based on stability analysis and the yield performance, CH-896 could be regarded as relatively more stable and tolerant to summer heat.
