Abstract

The pre-emergence herbicides, diuron at 3 and 3.5 kg/ha were sprayed during the first fortnight of March. The post-emergence herbicides, gramoxone and glycel at 4 litres/ha were sprayed in the second fortnight of March. Application of diuron at 3.5 kg/ha was found to control effectively a broad spectrum of weeds in the vineyards. Glycel was found more effective than paraquat. The fruit yield was highest where diruon at 3.5 kg and glyphosate at 4 litres/ha were applied. The fruit quality did not vary significantly under different treatments. Out of all the three herbicides, diuron was found to be most economical.
