Abstract

A very high efficiency of in vitro shoot multiplication was recorded on MS semi solid medium supplemented with IAA 4 mg/l, IB A 10 mg/l and Adenine hemisulphate 200 mg/l. A maximum of 46.4 mean shoots were obtained. Biochemical analysis revealed significant variation in the levels of total carbohydrates and proteins at different culture stages. The levels of total carbohydrates were highest in the explant and reduced at subsequent stage. Conversely protein contents was lowest in the explant and showed an increase of 2.5 times in proliferation stage. However, after complete rooting the total carbohydrates and proteins have shown slight increase over multiplication stage.
