Economic evaluation of lime (Citrus aurantifolia) cultivation in Bijapur district, Karnataka

Abstract

Lime is mainly a subtropical crop. It is found growing in the tropic and also in temperate zones. The present study analysed the economics of lime cultivation, based on the data of 95 lime orchards, in Bijapur district, Karnataka. The cost of establishment worked out to Rs. 56429 in small, Rs. 49179 in medium and Rs. 47143 in large orchards. The annual maintenance cost during bearing period worked out to Rs. 11369 Rs. 12454 and Rs. 12034 in small medium and large orchards respectively. Returns started flowing in from 5th year and stabilised yields were obtained from 11th 25th year. The yields declined from 26th year onwards. The financial feasibility measures like NPW, BCR and IRR were higher and PBP was minimum in all the size group of orchards, even with the sensitivity analysis, there by justified its cultivation in Bijapur district of Karnataka.
