Abstract

Best surface sterilization was achieved by sequentially dipping the explant in 0.1% HgCl2 for 4 minutes followed by 10% NaOCl for 10 minutes. After initial establishment in MS medium, the explants were transferred to different strengths of MS and WPM media or in MS medium with graded levels of plants bioregulators (PBRs) viz. BA and IBA. Full strength WPM among the media and 2 mg/l BA + 0.5 or 1.0 mg/l IBA among the PBR combinations were most efficient in shoot proliferation. The proliferated shoots rooted best in the 1/2 MS medium supplemented with 2 mg/l IBA. After acclimatization, the regenerated plants developed normally in pots.
