The five cultivars with high yield potential were used to study the heterosis effect in cucumber. The extent of heterosis over better parent for most of the horticultural traits were medium to high. For yield per plant, heterosis to the extent of 51.34 and 51.15 per cent was recorded in K-75 × Gyn 1 and K-90 × Gyn 1 respectively. It has also been found that negative heterosis of 53.41 and 51.89 per cent for node at which first female flower appeared respectively. The overall heterosis in the cross of K-75 with Gynl was very high (29.45%) as compared to the check. Therefore, the cross K-75 × Gynl is recommended for further breeding programme.
