Abstract

Sequential screening for Fusarium wilt (FW), powdery mildew (PM) and downy mildew (DM) resistance would be: screen and identify FW resistant (R) plants in February-March under artificial inoculation conditions; screen FWR plants for PM resistance in March-April under artificial inoculation and identify (FW + PM)R plants and maintain these through selfing; sow selfed seeds of (FW + PM)R plants to screen for DM resistance under natural epiphytotic conditions in August-September and identify (FW + PM +DM)R plants and maintain through selfing. Similarly, sequential screening, identification and maintenance of triple disease resistant plants could be followed for FW, CGMMV and DM.
